Marie Engen

I was employed by a major Canadian Bank for just over 25 years.  During the last five years of employment I worked as a Financial Advisor with a Certified Financial Planner designation.

The bank’s intense sales culture and the “one-size-fits-all” packaged approach to their products made it difficult to provide individualized advice.

In my opinion, asking questions and understanding the real needs and problems of potential clients was much more important than just attempting to sell a product.

We had different goals and expectations, so I ultimately resigned from my position.

I firmly believe that an unbiased financial plan is based on a client’s needs and goals and the only way to achieve that is to remove the self-serving influence of sales’ commissions from the equation.

As a fee-only financial planner I will help you manage your money and work with you to realize your goals.  I don’t sell any financial products and I don’t receive any compensation for any general recommendations.

I am confident that, in working together, I can create a plan that works for you.

The first step is a free consultation by email or a scheduled phone call to understand your financial situation.  We will determine whether I can help you and if together we are a “good fit.”

If we go ahead, you will receive a detailed quote for my services along with a list of information and documents I will need to begin the financial planning process.  I’m always available for further questions and advice.

Once your plan is complete you will review it and complete any action steps.  I will coach you along the way.

After one year we will complete a final review, rebalance and alter the plan as required.

At this time some clients will feel confident enough to carry on themselves and others will want ongoing assistance via an annual review on a flat fee basis.

If you have any questions, or want to schedule a free consultation, please contact me.
