Fee Only Advice

You can call us fee-only advisors, fee-for-service planners, or money coaches – it does not matter.  What does matter is that you get unbiased financial advice from someone who’s knowledgeable and trustworthy.

At Boomer & Echo financial planning, we don’t sell products or get paid commissions to refer you to someone who does.  Instead we offer sound financial advice to help you get out of debt, budget and manage your spending, and decide on big picture questions like; should I pay down my mortgage or invest, can we afford to have one parent stay home with the kids full-time, or when can I retire?

We are not licensed to sell investments and cannot recommend specific mutual funds, ETFs, or individual stocks to buy or sell.  What we can do is review your portfolio and analyze the asset allocation, risk, and fees and then measure its performance against a comparable benchmark or index.

All of this means that we offer the opposite of what you get from your average advisor at a big bank.  They receive commissions to sell you bank mutual funds, take mortgage vacations, and open full service accounts – not to give you sound advice on how to lower fees, pay down debt, and save to reach your short-and-long term goals.

We charge by the project, not by the hour.  Our fee-only advice costs $1000 for individuals and $1400 for couples.  What you get is a full review of your financial picture through an ongoing conversation over the course of a year.

We’ll work with you to put together and implement a financial plan based on your identified goals.  You’ll get unlimited access to us by phone call or email while you work through your plan.  At the end of the year we’ll review the entire process to ensure that you’re on the right path.

Our goal is to teach you how to manage your finances, so that you don’t have to rely on us going forward.  If you would like to continue to work with us after the first year, you can retain our services annually for half your original fee – $500 for individuals, $700 for couples.

We also want to empower you so that you’re not intimidated by the bank salespeople when it comes time to renew your mortgage or open a discount brokerage account.

We specialize in comprehensive financial planning, retirement planning, money coaching, portfolio reviews, and decision consultation.

What Our Clients Have To Say

Robb has been such a pleasure for me to work with over this past year.  I have always come from a place of fear about my financial future, and very quickly, Robb, showed me that the path was not as bad as I had made it out to be.  He was so patient in answering all my questions and explaining various aspects of financial planning to me.  He gave me practical, easy tools to use to help me understand budgeting, and he also did research in areas for me in areas such as disability insurance.  Most importantly, he never made me feel badly for things I didn’t understand and he has been supportive and encouraging.  I truly feel empowered about my finances as a result of working with him!

The review was professional, prompt and educational.  I am pleased with the detail and amount of information   for the cost.  Your summation provided an understandable presentation of the situation vs confusing charts and graphs.

Michael from Penticton

I just wanted to say how great it has been to work with Marie these past few months. My wife and I were definitely in need of an unbiased review of our financial situation and that’s exactly what we got.

All we owned were high MER mutual funds and we needed someone to confirm that our decision to switch to index ETF’s was sound and that with a proper plan we will reach our retirement goals. Her analysis of our current situation was thorough, and it made us feel good to see that we were on track so far.

What we wanted to know was what we needed to do for the next 10 to 12 years before retirement. She set out 4 different scenarios based on different savings rates, different rates of return, and different retirement dates. All were achievable for us, which was in stark contrast to what our previous advisor had told us.

I am happy to say that with Marie’s help we have switched all the high MER funds to an index portfolio with Questrade. Now, if we can only take her biggest piece of advice and ignore all this recent turbulence we’ll be just fine.
